4th - 8th Grade

Students who have completed 4th through 8th grade have the opportunity to register for one morning session and one afternoon session in our 4-week Classical Summer Camp.  Each session strives to partner with every child to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed for each activity, so campers may enjoy these activities, not only during camp but also at home or out in our community.

Session Descriptions

Session 1 (June 5 - 16)

AM SESSION: Athletics (Basketball) or (Soccer)

Basketball: Sheridan Hills Basketball Camp is a two week intensive camp that will focus on the fundamentals of basketball through group drills, station work, competitions, and games.  Players who attend this camp, will be challenged and will gain an appreciation and greater understanding for the game of basketball. Sheridan Hills Alumni, Caitlin Morgado will coach our campers and bring her love and passion for basketball to all our campers. 

Soccer: Sheridan Hills Soccer Camp is a two week intensive camp that works on skill development, designed to enhance individual players. Coached by Sheridan Hills Varsity Boys Soccer Coach, Ruben Hernandez, campers will improve their basic soccer fundamentals through fun drills and competitive games. 

PM SESSION: Fine Arts (Art Class) or STEM (Robotics)

Art:  Sheridan Hills Art Camp will instruct students in concepts of drawing, painting, and other mediums. Art History will also be an important aspect of the course. Students should bring their best creativity and spirit of fun to the class! The class will be taught by Cathy Spee, the Art teacher at Sheridan Hills Christian School. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree and has also served as a Graphic Designer.

Robotics:  Sheridan Hills Classical Camp is proud to partner with the professionals from Broward Engineering for Kids to provide a hands on Robotics Class.  Campers will learn the basics of designing, programming, and controlling a fully functional robot.  Using LEGO MINDSTORMS  mathematical concepts, and engineering principles, students will brainstorm, plan, test, and modify sequences of instructions to accomplish a given task. 

Session 2 (June 19 - 30)

AM SESSION: Athletics (Volleyball) or (Baseball)

​Volleyball:  Sheridan Hills Alumni, Caitlin Morgado will coach our campers during Volleyball Camp.  While playing at SHCS, Caitlin received player of the year and went on to play volleyball at St. Thomas University. She currently coaches Club volleyball with the Florida Suns. Caitlin will instruct our campers on the fundamentals of volleyball.  Campers will develop their passing, setting, spiking, and serving skills while participating in station activities, and competitive games. 

Baseball/Softball:  Coached by Sheridan Hills head baseball coach Braulio Hernandez , Sheridan Hills Baseball/Softball summer camp is a two week intensive camp.   Campers will learn the basics skills of throwing, catching, and batting, while getting a better understanding of the game as a whole.

PM SESSION: STEM (Home Ec) or Fine Arts (Music)

 

Home Economics: Campers participating in Sheridan Hills Home Economics/Life Skills Camp, will be creating kid-approved projects, as well as developing the skills and a creative mindset to keep crafting long after camp is over. Kids will engage in learning experiences that teach life skills through cooking tasty treats, using science to solve problems, floral design, wood working, and a greater understanding of their own gifts and talents. By the end of the week, each camper will get to take home some fabulous hand-made projects, with the ability to make many more at home, while gaining fun memories of camp!

 

Home Economics: Sheridan Hills Classical Camp is proud to partner with Christian Reggae Recording Artist, Kristine Alicia.   Mrs. Alicia will partner with our campers to teach basic music performance skills.  At the end of this two week camp, campers will use the skills they learned to perform at a mini recital for friends and family. 

Session 3 (July 5 - 7)

Travel Time Students will travel off campus to three different field trips during this week.

Session 4 (July 10 - 21)

AM SESSION: Fine Arts (Drama/Theatre)

or STEM (Video Game Design/Coding)

 

Drama/Theatre: With 15 years of experience directing over 50 shows, Mr. Eric Spee will direct our Sheridan Hills Theatre and Drama Camp.  Campers will learn basic theatre movement, improvisation and communication skills, stage presence, enunciation and public speaking techniques, characterization, as well as theatre history.  Putting all this together along with teamwork and discipline, campers will prepare a show for a special showcase on Friday July 21st. 

 

Video Game Design/Coding: Instructed by the professionals at Broward Engineering for Kids,  campers will have the opportunity to create their own video game in this fun, stimulating electronic game design program just for kids.  Campers will be introduced to the awesome world of video game creation in a non-competitive, step by step process.  After learning how to make a game, campers will take home a copy of their final project to play at home. 

PM SESSION: Athletics (Flag Football) or (Tennis)

 

Flag Football:  Sheridan Hills Flag Football Camp is a two week intensive camp that focuses on the groundwork of football. Kids who attend will be able to participate in drills to improve not only their skills focused around the game, but also learn the importance of teamwork.  Offensive Coach at the University School, Nick Martinez will bring his love and knowledge of football to coach our flag football campers. 

 

Tennis:  Sheridan Hills Tennis Camp is a two week intensive camp focusing on the basic skills of tennis.  Students will participate in a variety of drills and activities to improve their tennis skills of forehands, backhands, volleys, and serves.  PTR Certified Coach, Carlos Cortes will instruct our campers in improving their tennis skills and gain an appreciation for the game of tennis. 

Session 5 (July 24 - August 4)

AM SESSION: STEM or Fine Arts (Craft Corner)

 

STEM:  Instructed by professionals from Broward Engineering for Kids, the STEM Summer Camp will provide a hands on session where campers will explore aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and environmental engineering.  Campers will be engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs to design, construct, test, and discover methods and solutions to scientific issues. 

 

Craft Corner:  If you are looking for something different in a camp this summer, then the Craft Corner session is just want you are looking for. The projects are diverse, challenging and most importantly tons of fun! Our craft projects are designed to enable the child to create in their own way and let their imagination take hold.  No two projects look alike and that is the beauty of it. Kids will create with paints, yarn, clay and recyclable materials just to name a few.  They will take home not only amazing pieces of art, but also the memories made with their fellow campers and encouraging staff. We look forward to the opportunity to develop your child's 'craftabilities' through this session.

PM SESSION: Athletics (Martial Arts) or (Tennis)

Martial Arts:  Sheridan Hills Classical camp is proud to partner with Sensei Pedro Font, owner and Chief Instructor of Mixed Martial Arts Centers in Pembroke Pines.  The two week intensive class will be fun and have dynamic training as well as a wide range of drills.  Campers will focus on proper blocking and striking.  This will involve the use of their hands and elbows.  They will also learn several kicking techniques as well as the use of their knees.  Each class will also have a fitness element.  Three simple rules will be observed:  Safety, Safety and Safety. During this camp the students will not be involved in contact (strikes) with other students.  The students will, however, have plenty of opportunities to strike our pads so they can experience contact in a safe environment.  Campers will also engage in “Mat Chat” in which they will discuss life lessons to help teach the campers how to be great citizens and live a healthy balanced life. 

 

Martial Arts: Tennis (Part 2):  PTR Certified Tennis Coach, Carlos Cortes, will continue coaching our campers during this part two of Sheridan Hills Tennis Camp.  Campers will work on enhancing the basic tennis skills taught in Part 1, while teaching the game of tennis.  At the end of this two week session, campers will be able to participate in a mini tournament.
